    ------------------

Pratfalls is the first EP from Manchester, UK artist PLAYACTING. The EP is an intricate, layered mixture of acoustic and electronic elements. Initially conceived as a simple folk EP then produced to within an inch of its life with sampled, old-school, odd time signatured drum machine beats; soaring strings and melancholic vocals.

PLAYACTING is Evan Wilson, who used to be in Deaf to Van Gogh's Ear and New Hips - two of Manchester's most unpredictable bands. This EP is a definite change in direction for Wilson: whilst holding on to his favourite things (atypical rhythms, tempo shifts and falsetto) he sets off in new directions with this six track record.

You paid me the kindness of not hitting me when I told you But it's all that I can do to keep from hitting you So, it does not follow that you are excused Just count yourself lucky I'm terrified It's all OK for us 'Cause we can't help ourselves I am a hater of predicaments not their people But most people as well And it does not follow that you are excused Even if I hinted that you were I am scared of this 'Cause I can always help myself

PART 1 My wit, sharper than this My brain worked faster My resolve, strong for a bit Oh dear'ed like a bad idea This time spent away from this For good, is great, but I wouldn't choose this time Wending away from this It isn't good, even if it does good It might resound close to perfect if you want it to But it's not to be and it's not for me to say Oh how I wish I could be less away Of these down- and pitfalls Oh I long to be less aware Of these down- and pratfalls PART 2 There's little that I can't worry about I'm friends with doubt and it's friends with me There was nothing that I couldn't do without There's little that I can't worry about I'm sure of doubt and it's sure of me There was nothing beyond the remit of my fretting There's little that I can't worry about I'm certain now, but certainty's always short with me There was nothing that I couldn't do without

Rather than skirting around it We are close-dancing with the problem 'Til the elephant in the room's ears are burning And I'm nonethewiser Like somebody's holding a magnet Over my moral compass I'm well aware of my pros and cons Which is first on my list of cons But here with this impressive slouch Oh and those charmingly narrowed eyes who've made friends

It's your good lucks It's things I have It's all run in to itself It's losing all faith in your social barometer It's having nothing to judge against It's stopping talking about taste and choice Like their infinitely separate things It's practicing your facial expressions in a mirror It's circumstance where you can't get lost (a hand misplaced by mine) It's trading rebellion for common sense It's having nothing to rail against It wasn't for me, but we know what I'm like You're an altogether kinder thing It's the kind of thing we could do well without Let's all run in to ourselves I think I can believe in stuff to its proper given measure But I fear there's nothing I can't live without And I'm petrified cause there's nothing keeping us in place And each thing can only happen once It's arrived too soon
